Position Summary: Responsible for the coordination, supervision, and direction of all aspects of the library operation. This includes staff organization and development; physical plant; fiscal management and planning; activities and services such as library instruction; collection development; faculty, student, and administrative relations; marketing & engagement; cooperation with other libraries; policy recommendations; and long- and short-range planning. Will supervise professional, support, and student employee staff.

Position Responsibilities:
- Works with library staff to develop and provide constructive counsel and supervision. Promotes staff interest in providing helpful service to students, faculty, and administrators. Assures that adequate library services are delivered.
- Endeavors to create a functional and appealing physical environment.
- Engages in long- and short-range planning and administers sound financial management.
- Works with librarians and faculty to promote the coordination of library instruction programs into the academic mission of the institution.
- Works with librarians and faculty to provide the most appropriate collection of materials possible with resources available. Endeavors to establish relationships with other libraries and institutions to provide materials not available locally. Promotes the adoption of technological advances, especially utilizing computers, to augment access to other resources.
- Develops statistical and qualitative information to measure the value and effectiveness of library services that can be used for the strategic planning and assessment process.
- Pursues revenue enhancement opportunities through grant writing and fundraising.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level and responsibilities of the position.
- Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS or equivalent program (advanced degree in an additional field preferred) and demonstrated knowledge and experience in the effective application of professional skills.
- Seven years of successful administrative experience within an academic or university library.
- Demonstrated experience in managing in a collective bargaining environment; developing and administering a comprehensive budget; monitoring the preparation of accreditation documents and other reports; leading the personnel selection, supervision, and professional development process for all library staff; and engaging in strategic planning with key stakeholders, including the library's own performance assessment;
- Possess a clear understanding of both information technology and information literacy and their changing roles in higher education.
- Be able to articulate a strong vision for the library within a complex university organization.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively within a culture of diversity and inclusion.
- A leader who will foster collaborative relationships internally, across campus, in the community, within the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, and with other institutions.
- Demonstrated exemplary commitment to academic excellence and student success, possess superb oral and written communication skills, and be an active participant and recognized leader in her/his professional organizations.
- Multilingual or bilingual skills preferred.
